This will be a doozy so prepare yourself!

Shanna recently posted some of this information on her Facebook page and after the huge amount of interest, we decided to put it all together in place for you all. This information is simply information from a nonbias view. We hope it helps in your research and decisions for your family's well-being.

Edipeel or Apeel is a plant-based coating that is applied to fruits and vegetables to extend their shelf life and reduce food waste. It is made from natural materials such as lipids and glycerolipids that are derived from plant sources. Apeel forms a thin, edible barrier on the surface of the produce, acting as a protective layer against moisture loss and oxidation.

This technology is said to help fruits and vegetables maintain their freshness for a longer period, reducing the rate of spoilage and extending their availability to consumers. The application of Apeel does not involve any genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or synthetic preservatives. It is considered safe for consumption and has been approved by regulatory authorities such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This aligns with sustainable practices and efforts to create a more environmentally friendly food system. Apeel is marketed as a solution to help reduce food waste and improve the availability and quality of fresh fruits and vegetables. Extending the shelf life of produce, it supports efforts to create a more sustainable and efficient food supply chain. The coating is a surface finishing agent, an edible physical barrier that locks in moisture and blocks the oxidative effects of oxygen.

Apeel Sciences Claims:

The company behind Apeel Technology, aPEEL Technology Inc, dba Apeel Sciences, is based in California and was founded in 2012 by James Rogers, Ph.D. James Rogers founded aPEEL Technologies in 2012  with a $100,000 grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  aPEEL Technologies has now raised more than $719M from groups and persons including the Rockefeller Foundation; the World Bank Group; Anne Wojcicki, co-founder and CEO of 23andMe; and Susan Wojcicki, former CEO of YouTube. In May 2021 Apeel Sciences was valued at $1.1 billion.

Apeel Sciences the developer and manufacturer of Edipeel™ claims numerous studies to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of their plant-based coating. Dr. Jenny Du (VP of Ops) is the scientist behind the formula. These studies are said to have been conducted both internally and in collaboration with external research partners. Here are some key findings from the studies:

  1. Shelf Life Extension: Apeel has been shown to significantly extend the shelf life of various fruits and vegetables. For example, studies have demonstrated that Apeel-coated avocados can maintain their quality and freshness for up to double the time compared to untreated avocados. Similar results have been observed with other products such as citrus fruits, apples, cucumbers, and bell peppers.

  1. Reduction of Food Waste: By slowing down the rate of spoilage and maintaining the quality of fruits and vegetables, Apeel has the potential to reduce food waste at different stages of the supply chain, from harvest to consumer. Preliminary data suggest that Apeel has the capacity to significantly decrease post-harvest losses and improve marketable yields.

No sources found to date.

  1. Consumer Acceptance: Studies have also been conducted to evaluate consumer acceptance of Apeel-treated produce. The findings indicate that consumers generally perceive Apeel-coated fruits and vegetables as being of higher quality and more appealing compared to untreated produce. Consumers have expressed a willingness to purchase and consume Apeel-treated produce due to its extended freshness and reduced need for chemical preservatives.

No sources found to date.

  1. Safety and Environmental Impact: Apeel has undergone rigorous safety assessments and is considered safe for consumption. The key components of Apeel are derived from naturally occurring substances found in fruits and vegetables, making it generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by regulatory authorities. Furthermore, Apeel is designed to be biodegradable and leaves no detectable residues on the produce after washing.

It is important to note that these specific findings may vary depending on the type of produce and storage conditions. Additionally, further research and field trials are said to be ongoing to explore the efficacy of Apeel in different settings and with various fruits and vegetables.

Several natural materials have been used for coating and film formulations over the decades. These include proteins [egg albumen, whey, gluten, gliadin, casein], carbohydrates, starches, pectins, gelatin, fatty acids, and collagen. Herbs have natural antimicrobial and antioxidant properties with nutraceutical properties. *More on this later. Aloe vera gel, neem, lemon grass, rosemary, tulsi, and turmeric are being trialed.

Apeel has already secured the following partnerships:

Social media findings:

Matt Landman, I came across a post the other day by Rebekah Kaetterhenry Watson regarding “Apeel”. Apparently, the growers that provide organic apples to Costco and other stores use Apeel but you wouldn’t know because the secondary packaging does not list it.

Here’s a cut and paste of the post:

“I have been in a weird back and forth with Stemilt Growers (the company that provides organic apples to Costco and other stores) about their use of Apeel on their produce. The short version is that they DO use Apeel on all of their produce. Including organic produce.

In addition, they do not label any of their produce directly (like they should, in my opinion) and the only labeling they do is on the external manufacture packaging. So, for instance, the big giant box being shipped to Costco will have some sort of label that the items have been treated with Apeel. However, the package of apples a customer grabs does not have any labeling notifying you the items have been treated with Apeel. We went back and forth on this to the point I felt like I was in the twilight zone.”

Brandi Peck states: “Commercial veggies/fruit companies if not using Apeel use wax, irradiation, spraying with sulfur dioxide/sulfites they also spray with Methyl formate (Erinol), ethyl formate and (in some countries) ethylene oxide is frequently applied to dried fruits to kill infestations of insects and molds. It has been on food at least since 2014 or before. They are in 8 countries or more and have a conventional coating and an approved Organic formula for Certified Organic Foods.” United States Edipeel Product Information Sheet.pptx (storyblok.com)

Apeel confirmed this on their website:

“Apeel keeps producing fresh for longer thanks to the help of a little extra 'peel'. Our plant-based protection slows water loss and oxidation, the primary causes of spoilage.”

“Apeel is composed entirely of purified monoglycerides and diglycerides, edible compounds that can be found in a variety of foods. They are safe to eat as verified by regulatory authorities around the world, including Health Canada, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the World Health Organization (WHO). In fact, they are so safe they can be found in products designed for the most sensitive populations, including infant formula and nutrition shakes for the elderly.”

“You could likely remove some of Apeel with water and scrubbing, but it’s unlikely that you’d be able to remove all of it without damaging the fruit or vegetable,” the website said. “It wouldn’t maintain the fruit’s natural freshness if it was easily removed.”

Apeel also states:

“Every plant on Earth has a peel that protects it. The top layer of the peel is called the cutin layer, which keeps moisture in while allowing the plant to breathe without drying out. Apeel protects fresh produce by forming a thin edible “peel” on the fruit's surface, similar to the plant’s cuticle layer.” Cutin is a waxy polymer and a primary component of the plant cuticle. It covers all aerial surfaces of all plants. It’s insoluble and therefore has a waterproof quality.

The coating is not “expected” to travel into the fruit beyond the peel. But it does not appear any studies are being done to determine this.

Produce is not meant to be coated in an “extra peel” to prevent oxidation. Produce is meant to rot. What is happening to these items when they are sealed off from oxygen and forced to stay in an unnatural state for months on end? What happens when you then eat these months-old items with a spray that can’t be removed? Nobody really knows. There is zero evidence of how these things play out in the bodies of growing children.

Growing your own food or having detailed conversations with the farms you get your food from is a pretty good idea. We are told Stemilt Farms is absolutely treated with Apeel. There is also a company called Agrofresh's Smart Fresh using coating on organics.

According to the FDA submission, Apeel uses ethyl acetate and heptane. It also has traces of several heavy metals - lead, mercury, Cadmium, etc.

Remove the toxins, mold, fungi, and chemicals from your body to boost your immune system. The heavy metals added into your system through ethyl acetate and heptane will build toxicity and break down the nervous system. The Detox Girls work closely with Dr. Christina Rahm, one of only 20 bioscience engineers in the world capable of understanding the mechanisms these toxins and the Apeel have in the human body. Dr. Rahm is the only 1 of the 20 who can help; literally making her the only person in the world. The nutraceutical formulations created by Dr. Rahm through DRC Ventures and available only at Root Wellness remove, eradicate, and rip apart the toxins and heavy metals including ethyl acetate and heptane’s lead, cadmium, mercury, fungi, mold, plastics, and forever chemicals. At the same time, they boost the immune system and create natural blockades to protect the cells from infiltration and disease. This is the only process available that we are aware of to help in this fight. Remember, there is hope and there is help. The LORD always makes a way before these attacks come upon us. His mechanism chosen for this time is Dr. Rahm and Root Wellness
